The Akademie der Künste is hosting the international opening festival 100 Years of Bauhaus, which will take place from 16 to 24 January 2019 at the Akademie building on Hanseatenweg and will be dedicated to performing arts. Concert, installation, theatre, dance, discourse, workshop and club: The nine-day under the artistic direction of Bettina Wagner-Bergelt offers a multitude of formats for new encounters with the Bauhaus stage and spans from the outstanding historical testimonies to today's avant-garde and the traces the Bauhaus has left behind in contemporary art. The opening festival comes under the comprehensive funding for the Bauhaus centenary celebrations by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is the patron of the festival.
The programme includes more than 25 productions from The Triadic Ballet and Pictures at an Exhibition, to theatre from Samuel Beckett and the virtual reality installation Das Totale Tanz Theater. Ten world premieres and two German premieres await the public, with over 100 international artists involved, including Robert Wilson, Richard Siegal, Michael Wollny, Sandra Hüller, Trajal Harrell, Mykki Blanco, Cesc Gelabert and many more. Art and technology, light, colour, sound and movement and the relationship between humankind and machine will play a key role in the programme.In the run-up to the opening festival, on 14 January 2019 at 11 am there will be a press conference with Bettina Wagner-Bergelt and artists participating in the festival.
