B.K. Tragelehn "13 x Heiner Müller"

Book Presentation

Over a span of more than 30 years the director B.K. Tragelehn realized 13 stage performances of theatre texts by Heiner Müller in both East and West Germany. According to the motto "Contradicting is always right" – with constant interruptions through censorship and professional bans in the East and in the West – Tragelehn and Müller consistently understood theatre as a corrective and alternative concept, beginning with "Die Korrektur" in 1959, through "Die Umsiedlerin", prohibited after its debut performance shortly after the construction of the Berlin Wall, up to the satyr play the "Leben Gundlings" in 1991, following the end of the GDR.

The publication (Verlag Theater der Zeit) makes use of original accounts, documents and photographs, predominantly from the archives of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin. These stations of a long-standing collaboration actively embody Brecht’s credo about changing the world through theatre. This book about two men of the theatre whose friendship went beyond their artistic collaboration is published to commemorate the 80th birthday of B.K. Tragelehn.

With Stephan Dörschel (opening remarks), B.K. Tragelehn and Carsten Ahrens.
