Junge Akademie – Open Studios Night

Open Studios

The Junge Akademie is opening its studios at the Hanseatenweg venue. Interested viewers are invited to discover both new works and works in progress by the fellows Barbara Delać (Literature), Johann Lurf (Film and Media Arts), Franziska Pflaum (Film and Media Arts) and Elena Zieser (Film and Media Arts). The artists provide insights into their artistic practices through exhibitions, film screenings, interactive improvisations, poetry-sound-performances and audio plays and are on hand to talk about their works.

In Berlin Barbara Delać experiments with “electrical language adventures” – a language inspired by public life in the city and its new and older residents. Together with artist Sara Renar, she investigates new possibilities of poetic language in a poetry-sound-performance.

In his short films and studies Johann Lurf investigates diverse forms of seeing and the movements, codes and norms of our society, much like the history and development of cinema itself. In his studio, Lurf shows his most recent experimental film Cavalcade as well as the continuing work series Film & Form.

Franziska Pflaum is currently working on a collage that oscillates between film, photography and a radio play. Aside from actors for the photo film Geschichten eines Jungen, einer Frau und eines Soldaten (Stories of a Boy, a Woman and a Soldier), she also worked with the young lay actor Ali Reza Ahmadi from Afghanistan. At the Open Studio Night viewers are encouraged to participate in improvised talks with the fictional characters. The evening's documentation will become part of the film being planned.

Elena Zieser's radio play Helena tells the story of a friendship between women. It is a project she produced as a Berlin-Basel Fellow along with the experimental radio of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Listeners open themselves up to dreams of a highly absurd, fragile and sensitive world. In German with English subtitles.
